Björkö Konstnod

BKN is located at former Björkö-Arholma skola the over 100 year old buildings are solid wood structures with plenty of windows. It consists of "main building", the "annex" and a barn/shed. The later we predominantly use for storage. The annex has the shared space by the name "Björkö" and the main building a shared space called "Kamchatka". Kitchen and showers are located in main building and toilets are to be found in both.

Annex was the original school building (1917) and the teacher used to live on the second floor. The larger building that we call main house has a ground floor and one above and one below. This is because it'is located on a slope so there is no real basement.

Below is the plan for the ground floor of main building. The upper floor has 2 bathrooms, 1 darkroom and one studio. On this floor two micro studios are also located. The lower floor has the craft studio and a the darkroom for organic processes.

Depending on season and programs the total numer of studios at use vary. Normally we are 5-9 artists.

We collaborate on programs with Nordic Analogue Network and SWAN Emergency.

We are part of some umbrella organizations in addition to the two stated above among them RESARTIS.

BKN is a safe and inclusive space. We practice a house motto of "Thinking Together, Learning Together". Most often we do this as Share Sessions in Kamchatka or Björkö. We honer your time at BKN and it's important that you focus on what you set out to do, but at your hand you have a new network full of resources and experiences. Residency artists take turn in keeping shared spaces clean.

in the fall of 2023 we went off the beaten track with Walking As Practice program and discovered many new ways to get to places on Bjökö
